Give Healthier Halloween Treats

by Yoli on October 28, 2010

Sugar is Sugar. The body processes most sugars in the same way. But what is paired with said sugar makes the difference. Let’s make a commitment to provide some treats that also give back to our kids. Here are some recommendations you can find at your local health food store.

Lemur Peanut Choco Drizzle Crispy Rice Bars
These gluten-free and dairy-free rice bars are a great treats, but of course be aware of kids who have peanut allergies. There are about 18 bars in the large bag. Whole Foods currently have these in stock for the holiday season.

Stretch Island Fruit Strips | FruitaBü Smoooshed Fruit Rolls
The Stretch Island Fruit Strips provide a ½ serving of fruit, have no artificial additives or added sugar. The FruitaBü Smoooshed Fruit Rolls provide 1 serving of fruit, have no artificial additives or added sugar.

Both Trader Joes and Whole Foods have their own private label conventional and organic fruit strips.

YummyEarth Organic Lollipops
What makes these lollipops better than your standard blow pop? The ingredients do not include chemical colors, artificial flavors, corn syrup or GMO’s. So opt for these little treats instead.

RiteAid may carry some inventory of these pops.

Annie’s Homegrown Organic Bunny Fruit Snacks
These no artificial ingredients, preservatives, or artificial colors. They are gluten and gelatin free thus being vegan. There are about 24 packs in the large seasonal bag. Whole Foods currently have these in stock for the holiday season.

Surf Sweets Sour Worms Treat Packs
These no corn syrup or GMO ingredients. 100% Vitamin C per service, gluten and casein free thus being vegan. And an ever better guarantee is that they are made in a nut-free facility. There are about 20 packs in the large seasonal bag. Whole Foods currently have these in stock for the holiday season.
